Write Congress and ask them to pass a new bill that will enhance the safety of cosmetics and toiletries: The Personal Care Products Safety Act (S. 1113). The bill was just re-introduced in May 2017, and it changes how chemicals in cosmetics and toiletries are reviewed and regulated. It also requires the FDA to test chemical ingredients each year to determine safety, which is incredibly important, because the vast majority of chemicals on the market have never been tested for safety!
The bill would amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938. It’s been almost 80 years since a law was passed to regulate the use of cosmetics and personal care products.
It’s time for a change. Contact your senators today.

I stand in full support of the bi-partisan Personal Care Products Safety Act (S. 1113). As a conscientious consumer, I want better regulation to help keep my family and I safe and protected from harmful chemicals such as benzene, formaldehyde, lead, and phthalates. These chemicals are linked to diseases and are known to be toxic, yet they are in thousands of our toiletries.
Additionally, research is needed on the safety of the thousands of chemicals on the market that are untested, which would also lead to safer products and healthier consumers. I urge you to support the passage of this bill and to vote to enable better regulation of the cosmetics and toiletries industry.
